Besides Thoroughbreds, other breeds like Standardbreds, Quarter Horses and Appaloosas are used for horse racing, too! Race horse riders are called jockeys; they can be either men or women! Jockeys wear colorful shirts and helmet covers, called ""silks,"" that represent the horses' owners and make it easy to tell the horses apart during races.
